Sabatino A. “Sam” Luciani I, 83, died July 7, 2024 under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County and his family.
Sam was born November 13, 1940, in Watertown a son of Laurino and Erusilia (Galardi) Luciani. Sam married Martha Kiah April 12, 1969, at Holy Family Church with Msgr. William Argy officiating. Mrs. Luciani died October 27, 2017. Sam served in the United States Army from March 11, 1964 through March 10, 1966 In 1988, he went back to school and received his GED in his 40’s. Sam worked for the New York Air Brake Company for a short time before beginning a twenty seven year career at Mercy Hospital in the maintenance boiler department and later Assistant Superintendent of maintenance. Sam was a life member of the Sackets Harbor American Legion, Post #1757, and the Knights of Columbus Council #259, Watertown. He enjoyed cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and was also an avid Yankees Fan, taking many bus trips to “The Stadium”.
Surviving is a son, Sabatino A. “Sam” II (Margaret Garrett), Watertown, a daughter Jennifer A. Luciani (Kolleen Bentivegna) , San Miguel, CA, a brother Nicola “Nick” (Kathy), Watertown, two sisters, Clementina Trahan, Filomena Oliver, both of Watertown, a grandson Alex (Lilly) Luciani, four step grandchildren Craig, Candace, Colten, and Cassandra and six great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Friday July 12, 2024, from 4-6pm at D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will Saturday July 13th at 10:15 at the funeral home followed by an 11:00 am funeral mass at Holy Family Church with Reverend John Demo officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Glenwood Cemetery with Military Honors.
