Russell A. Bogues, 85, of Dexter, passed away at the home of his daughter, Yolanda Bogues, Sunday, October 6, 2024, under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County and his family.
Russell was born November 2, 1938, in Detroit, MI, son of Gordon and Edith (Steimel) Bogues. He graduated from high school and attended college. Russell also served in the United States Army for two years after high school. On January 6, 1962 he married Eleanor M. Lewis in Hazel Park, MI.
Russell became a Journeyman working at RJ Krup Machinists in Warren, MI. Later he became a project engineer for Nachi Robotics in Farmington, MI. His proudest moment of his career was manufacturing the landing gear for the first Apollo Mission to space.
After his retirement Russell found his love for painting. He received the Sackets Harbor and Watertown Art Guild Awards. His painting mediums included, pastels and oil. Russell also enjoyed building wooden boat models, fishing, belonging to his fishing club and chess.
Russell loved his family. He was instrumental in helping to raise his granddaughters. He drove them to gymnastic meets, practice or anywhere they needed to go. He was a great storyteller, making road trips fly by with all of the stories he liked to tell. His grandchildren and their friends loved calling him “Grampa Dearest”
He is survived by his wife Eleanor, a son Michael (Denise) Bogues of Brighton, MI, a daughter, Yolanda Bogues, Watertown, a sister, Dianne Gavula, Macomb Township, MI, grandchildren, Adam (Jacqueline) Bogues, Rachel (Zachary) Mundy, Samantha Pelletier and Calista Pelletier, a great granddaughter, Baily Mae Pelletier.
