Ronald J. Burns, 74, of Copenhagen, NY, died Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Samaritan Medical Center with his family by his side.
Mr. Burns was born April 25, 1950, in Ellisburg, NY, a son of John D. and Dorothy A. (Weir) Burns. He graduated from Adams Center-Adams Central School and received his associate’s degree from North Country Community College. He married Dawn Corbett on September 21, 1973, at Adams Village Baptist Church. The marriage was later blessed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Copenhagen. Mr. Burns was President of Viking Cives in Harrisville, NY retiring in 2014. In 2017, he was elected into his first two-year term on the Lewis County Board of Legislators for District 3. He also represented Lewis County on the Industrial Development Agency board until his resignation in 2022. Mr. Burns gave time at the Volunteer Transportation Center helping veterans and others needing rides to appointments. He was a member of the Lowville Elks Lodge #1605. Mr. Burns was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, attending many games at Fenway Park. He also enjoyed watching football, golfing, traveling, riding his motorcycle, reading, and their cottage on Lake Ontario.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer (Jeston) Fisher, Corpus Christi, TX, four brothers and their wives, Robert (Sharon), Adams Center, NY, Thomas (Tudy), Alamogordo, NM, Donald (Kari), Hutchinson, MN, Richard (Kathy), Potsdam, NY, and a sister in-law, Molly, Middleburg, FL. A brother, John, died before him.
Calling hours will be Friday, August 30, 2024, from 4pm-6pm at D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be Saturday August 31, 2024 at 9:15am at the funeral home followed by a 10am funeral mass at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
