Querino Augusto “Augie” Alteri,101, formerly of Cedar Street in Watertown, passed away December 30, 2025, at Samaritan Keep Home surrounded by his family.
Augie was born September 6, 1924, in Morolo, Italy, son of John and Laura (Cecilia) Alteri. Augie came to the United States in 1927. He graduated from Proctor High School in Utica and attended Utica College. Augie served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946 and again from 1951 until he was honorably discharged on April 23, 1952. After his service he was a Top -Secret Control Officer for Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, NY. From 1971, until he and Ida sold the business in 2007 to their son Mark, they owned and operated Alteri Bakery.
On June 26, 1954, he married Ida J. Spaziani at St. Anthony’s Church. Mrs. Alteri passed away August 28, 2021.
Augie was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, a charter member of the Men’s Mount Carmel Society, a member of the Italian American Civic Association, a charter member of the VFW in Clinton, NY and Watertown, NY, the DVA and the American Legion Post #61. He was a sports enthusiast, enjoyed making wine and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are four sons and their wives, John and Annette, Michael and Margaret, Mark and Christine, Paul and Adrienne, all of Watertown, a brother Albert Alteri, Utica, twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
A brother, Fernando Alteri, two sisters, Olga Attili, Mary Alteri Evans, all died before him.
Calling hours will be Friday, January 2, 2026 from 3-6pm at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A funeral mass will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at St. Anthony’s Church.
