Nicola L. “Nick” Luciani, 92, of Watertown, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026, at Samaritan Keep Home, surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and friend, Nick lived a life defined by service, faith, and quiet strength.
Born on July 10, 1933, to Laurino and Ersilia (Galardi) Luciani, Nick grew up in Watertown and carried his deep roots in the community throughout his life. He graduated from Watertown High School and later attended St. Leo University in Florida. Answering the call to serve his country, Nick dedicated 24 years to the United States Air Force, earning the respect of his peers and an honorable discharge for his years of commitment and sacrifice.
While stationed abroad, Nick’s life took a beautiful turn in 1962 when he married the love of his life, Kazue A. “Kathy” Nogami, in Japan. Together, they built a life grounded in devotion, resilience, and enduring partnership. After retiring from military service, Nick continued working at the Commissary at Fort Drum until his retirement in 1999.
Faith and fellowship were central to Nick’s life. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church and an active member of several organizations, including VFW Post #1400 (past Commander), American Legion Post #61 (past Commander), Disabled American Veterans (past State Commander), as well as the Italian American Civic Association, Knights of Columbus, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club Aerie 782. He found pride and camaraderie in these communities, forming friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Nick will be remembered for his steady presence, his strong work ethic, and his deep love for his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kazue; his son, Antonio (Jean); his daughters, Patricia Luciani-Summerville, S.C. and Carole (Joshua) Tooker -Shaker Heights, OH; his sisters, Clementina Trahan and Filomena Oliver; and his cherished grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Sabatino, in 2024.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 4–6 p.m. at D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
