Marie Abigail “Abbie” Brown, 74, of Middle Road, Watertown, passed away on February 6, 2025, at Medstar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, MD surrounded by her family.
Abbie was born February 7, 1950, in Watertown, daughter of Anthony J. and Alma A. (Elliott) Sparacino. She received her bachelor of science from Syracuse University. For over thirty years, Abbie was a social worker for Mercy Hospital, ending her career as Director of the department. After retiring, she went to work at the Behavioral Health Clinic, Medac Division at Ft. Drum, NY. Abbie worked tirelessly to help her residents and their families and was known for her compassion, hard work and strong character.
On May 24, 1975, she married Mark Brown at Holy Family Church. They have been married three months shy of fifty years. She was the love of his life.
Surviving besides her husband Mark are two sons, Adam (Jessica), Anthony (Sarah), five grandchildren, Carson, Henry, Lauren, AJ and Lena, her siblings, Gigi (Emilio) D'argenio, Joanne (Steve) Cairns, Mike (Marcia) Sparacino, Joe (Kitty) Sparacino, Margaret Sparacino Fuller, several nieces and nephews.
Abbie’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and she devoted countless hours to supporting them at lacrosse games, basketball games, swimming pools, recitals, and any other activity they loved. There was nothing she enjoyed more than cheering them on or spoiling them with endless treats and gifts. Other interests were shopping and outdoor activities including: gardening, making maple syrup with family and friends, and most recently pressing apple cider. Anyone who knew Abbie knew how much she loved caring for and feeding crowds, whether it was in the sugar shanty, tailgates, or in the comfort of her home.
She was a mother to many and a mother to all.
She was the most incredible wife and mother one could have ever asked for. Words do not describe what she meant to her family, friends and community. She meant so much to so many and the lives she impacted are countless. There will never be another Abbie Brown.
A funeral mass will be held Friday at 10 am at Holy Family Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. Online condolences may be made to www.dlcalarco.com
