Lyle Gayne, Sr. Obituary

Lyle C. Gayne, Sr., 86, of Swan Road, passed away unexpectedly April 28, 2025, at Samaritan Medical Center.

Lyle was born on February 1, 1939, in Gouverneur, NY, son of the late Ralph W. and Hazel G. (Clark) Gayne. He graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1957. 

Lyle married Sandra Burgess on June 15, 1963 in Ogdensburg, NY. Sandra passed March 13, 2002.

Lyle began his electrical career at St. Joe’s Zinc and Lead Mine from 1959-1968. After becoming a self-employed electrician from 1969-1971, Lyle joined the 655th Radar Squadron Dry Hill as a civilian Electrician in 1972 before transferring to Hancock Air Force Base in 1979 until 1981. In 1981 Lyle became employed with the NYS Department of Corrections at Watertown Correctional retiring as the Plant Superintendent in 1987.

Lyle was a communicant of Holy Family Church since 1972 and an exempt member of the Richville Fire Department. 

He was a loving husband, father, and Papa who enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, golfing, visiting Cranberry Lake and all things softball.

Lyle’s easy going nature brought countless smiles to everyone he encountered making him many new friends along the way, to most of whom he became fondly known as “Papa”.

He is survived by his children; Lynn (Trevor Bolton) Gayne, Adams, Robert L. (Julie) Gayne, Watertown, James F. (Leslie) Gayne, Dexter, Cheri (Keith) LaMarche, Dexter, Lyle C. (Becky) Gayne, Jr., Saugerties, a brother Leland Gayne, Endicott, two sisters, Bonnie Raymo, Gouverneur, Carol Denault, Evans Mills, a sister-in-law, Barbara Gayne, Carthage, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Lyle was predeceased by a son, Mark V. on May 18, 1985 and a brother Ralph Gayne. 

Calling hours will be Monday from 9am-11 am at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc with a prayer service at 11:15am,  followed by a funeral mass at noon at Holy Family Church. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.
