Lucia A. Scordo, 82, of Thompson Blvd., passed away October 15, 2018, at the Samaritan Medical Center, surrounded by her family, where she had been a patient for a short time.
Lucia was born May 15, 1936, in Watertown, daughter of Vincenzo J. and Marianna Agnesina Scordo. She graduated from Watertown High School. Lucia was a legal secretary and notary for her brother Jack Scordo in his law office for many years. She was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister of St. Anthony’s Church, a member of the Italian American Civic Association; a volunteer for the Bravo Italiano Fest where she and her sister Toni served at the Cultural Booth, “La Famiglia”. She was an Associate of the Religious Teachers of Filippini in Morristown, NJ, traveling to Fatima, Lourdes, Medjugorie, and Oberammergau. Lucia was a sports fan, in high school where she played basketball and softball, and in her adult life played tennis, for many years. She enjoyed watching the Yankees, Giants and Syracuse Basketball.
Surviving are two sisters, Caterina “Kay” and her husband, Fortunato “Fred” Benedetto, Watertown, Antoinetta A. “Toni”, Watertown, several nieces, nephews and cousins in the US and Italy. Lucia was the “eleven” of the eleven, the baby of the family. Her sibling’s that passed before her were, Frances , Mary , Fortunato “Ben”, Giuseppe “Joe”, Sebastian “Gus”, Sr. Grace, MPF, Giacomo “Jack” and Carmelina “ Millie”.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4-6pm at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be held on Saturday at 10:15 am at the funeral home with an 11 am funeral mass at St. Anthony’s Church with Reverend Christopher Looby officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Church, 850 Arsenal Street, Watertown, NY 13601 or to the Religious Teachers Fillipini, 455 Western Ave., Morristown, NJ 07960.
