Joan Marie Henry age 88 of Watertown, New York, passed away Friday January 12, 2024.
She was born January 27, 1935 in Watertown, New York to Minnie and Anselm Henry.
Joan was one of eleven children. She is survived by brother, William “Bill” Henry, Oswego NY, and sisters Barbara DeVito, Watertown and Radford VA, and Nancy Lawler, Greenwich CT & Fort Pierce FL.
She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers Don, Robert, Russ, Harold and sisters Helen Allen, Doris Dillenback, and Patricia Vander Bogart. Also, two nephews and a niece. Joan has approximately 45 nieces and nephews (and even more grand nieces and nephews).
In the early 50’s, Joan worked in Watertown, Newburgh, and in Connecticut as a Telephone operator. However, most of her career was spent as a Telephone Operator, and later as the Chief Operator at Fort Drum. She retired in 1997.
She was a 1953 graduate of Immaculate Heart Academy and was a lifelong member of Holy Family Church. She always had a strong Catholic Faith. In later years she was thankful to be able to watch EWTN. This helped her to continue to attend Catholic Masses, deal with some of the health issues she was facing, and strengthen her faith through watching Catholic programming.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 20, at 12:00 pm at Holy Family Church, 123 Winthrop Street, Watertown, NY. Burial will be in the spring at Glenwood Cemetery. As per Joan’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers you may donate to Holy Family Church, 129 Winthrop St. The Sisters of St. Joseph 1425 Washington St.
