Ida M. (Ada) Guardino, daughter of Sabastian (Gus) and Mary Nancy (Purpura) Guardino. Born in Watertown, December 14, 1928, passed away December 8, 2023 at the Samaritan Keep Home, surrounded by her family.
She is predeceased by her parents, Mary (Purpura) and Augustus Guardino, siblings, Carmeline Guardino Carpenter, Joseph Guardino, James Guardino, Constance Guardino and Salvator “Sam” Guardino.
Ada graduated from Watertown High School and Syracuse University with a degree as a Certified Medical Assistant. During summer vacations in High School, she worked as a leader for the Watertown Recreation Department at Kostyk Field. After graduating High School, she worked for Mercy Hospital in the Accounting Department doing general office work. Ada worked with several medical practitioners; Dr. John F. Flood, Dr. Anthony J. Flood and the longest for Dr. Louis C. Battista where she was a Medical Assistant, assisted with procedures, preformed general office work and accounting,
Ada enjoyed sports, as she would say “sports runs in the family”; she played Basketball for the City League sponsored by Watertown Recreation Department. Later, Ada joined Watertown Women’s Bowling Association, bowling for forty years at the Watertown Bowl. Ada was the Past president of the Watertown Women’s Bowling Association, served as Director of the New York State Women’s Bowling Association, traveling all over New York State attending conventions and tournaments. She was a current member emeritus of the NYS Bowling Association. In 1993, she was entered into the Bowling Hall of Fame.
Ada enjoyed traveling, going on trips with friends to NYC and many local theater performances. Ada arranged bus trips to Turning Stone Casino as a fundraiser for St. Anthony’s Church and the Italian American Civic Association.
Ada was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, Altar Rosary Society, Parish Council, member and Past President of Italian American Civic Association, member of the Senior Citizen B G’s, member of AARP, member of the Northside Improvement League and a member of the Jefferson County Historical Society.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral mass will be held 10 am Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at St. Anthony’s Church. Entombment will follow in Glenwood Mausoleum. Contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Church, 123 So. Massey Street, Watertown, NY 13601
