Gloria J. Washer, 82, formerly of Watertown, passed away June 6, 2025, at the Masonic Care Community in Utica, NY.
Gloria was born March 26, 1942, in Newburg, NY, daughter of the late Howard and Rita Roberts Prairie. She graduated from Chateaugay High School in 1959 and the Mercy School of Nursing in 1962. On May 4, 1963 she married Frederick A. Washer at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with Reverend Francor officiating. They were married fifty-seven years before Mr. Washer died in 2021.
Gloria was a Registered Nurse for Mercy Hospital in the maternity ward, NICU and Mother and Baby Departments from 1962-1990. After Mercy Hospital closed, she was worked for Samaritan Medical Center until her retirement in 2004. In retirement she worked part time at Sacred Heart Daycare for three years.
Gloria was a communicant of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, where she also enjoyed volunteering with her husband at Bingo and the monthly Sunday breakfast. She was a former secretary for the Mercy Alumni. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was an avid reader.
Surviving are two sons, Alan Washer, Richard Washer and his companion Eileen Peskhoff, a daughter, Corinne Ryan, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one great grandchild on the way at the end of summer, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Dale Prairie and a son-in-law, Daniel Ryan.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 11 am at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with Reverend Frank Natali officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
