Elma J. Michalzuk

Elma J. Michalzuk, 87, of Watertown, passed away January 24, 2024, at Samaritan Keep Home where she was a resident.

Elma was born April 10, 1936, in Carthage, daughter of Jerome and Olive (Zanker) Besaw. At the age of 16, Elma went to work for Loblaws. Shortly after she left Loblaws in 1958, she opened Elma’s Beauty Salon in 1964, where she worked until 1967. On June 28, 1958, she married Lawrence J. Netto. Mr. Netto passed away in November 1960. On November 30, 1963, she married Peter Michalzuk in Woodbridge, VA.

Elma is preceded in death by six siblings: Mary Wilson, Esther Wright, James Besaw, Paul Besaw, Ruth Neville, and her twin sister, Thelma Fahy. She is survived by her husband, Peter, and her four daughters: Julie Michalzuk of Watertown; Brenda and her husband Lin Coleson of Carmel, IN; Cindy Wentworth and her companion Tim Crossway of Adams Center; and Mary and her husband Jeremy Burr of Mooresville, NC. Elma was also blessed with four grandchildren, one great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Elma was an avid quilter and put her heart into everything she made. She loved her children and husband deeply. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, and her strong relationship with the Lord never wavered. Elma’s family would like to thank the fifth-floor nurses, aides, housekeeping, and activities for the kindness and care that was given to Elma.

An hour of calling will begin at 1 pm on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A funeral service will follow at 2 pm.
