On November 1, 2025, Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Clark Phillips “slipped away into the next Room”.
She was born, January 9, 1931, in Ogdensburg, NY, the daughter of Wesson B. Clark and Bertha (Ames) Clark.
Betty was a 1948 graduate of Nottingham High School, in Syracuse and a 1953 graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Betty married Elbert Warner Phillips September 3,1955 at our Lady of Solace Church in Syracuse.
An army and doctor’s wife, residing in Syracuse, Denver, El Paso, West Point, Buffalo, North Tonawanda and Henderson.
In her 79-year history in Henderson, Betty enjoyed: collecting commemorative quarters, a voracious reader, stamp collecting, jigsaw puzzles, bird watching, avid gardener, and playing with her friends from the Henderson Bridge Club.
Teaching and challenging her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to the art of competitive Monopoly. Betty was known for her no-quarter attitude when it came to Monopoly. She approached games and challenges with a ruthless determination, never backing down or giving up easily, she was “The Banker”.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elbert Warner Phillips, two daughters, Colleen Jane Phillips, Linda Joy Phillips Prather; and a grandson Cullen Reilly Kleftis.
She is survived by her; two daughters: Judy Ann Phillips of Forestville and Sandra Lynn Kleftis (Bill) of Chaumont, NY; three sons: Clifford Elbert Phillips (Lea) of SC and David Warner Phillips of North Tonawanda, and Brent Wesson Phillips (Michelle) of Clarence; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A lover of quotes, Betty’s would often recite: “I’m Fine”, “What’s your name? Pudd’n Tame. Ask me again. And I’ll tell you the same.”, “Nobody home but these chickens”, “OK, love u, bye”, “To thine ownself be true” … and “Dress your own soul with roses.”
