Cranson W. Gates, 84, of Baldwinsville, passed away May 10, 2025 at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, surrounded by his family.
Cranson was born January 2, 1941, in Carthage, NY, son of Cranson O. and Hazel Gates. He graduated from Carthage High School and attended Miami University for engineering. On November 26, 1975, he married Jeanne Fralonardo at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Smiley officiating.
Cran worked in the construction field for most of his adult life. He first retired in 2015, but was asked to come back three times, finally retiring at the age of 80. In his early life, he was a project manager in the field for the many buildings and townhouses in Washington, DC and New York. Later on, being primarily in the office, in both areas, he was the main conduit for the people in the field by scheduling projects from start to finish.
Cranson was the former Chairman of the Assessment Board for the Town of Clay. He was on the Dry Hill Ski Patrol. Cranson was an avid reader, computer user starting in the late 70’s with dos and loved reading the Sunday funnies. He was a creative person who enjoyed woodworking and furniture building, gifting some pieces to his family. He enjoyed cooking, brownies and soups were his specialty.
Cran had an unusual name, so he would always say, “Cran as in Cranberry, but sweeter.”
Surviving besides his wife are his children from a previous marriage; a son, Craig (Jeanette) Gates, Troy, NY a daughter, April (Lou) Greene, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and three grandchildren, Charlotte, Drew, and Michael.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral mass will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at St. Anthony’s Church. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.
