Betty Scott Obituary

Betty Ruth Scott, 79, passed away at home on February 7, while surrounded by support staff and friends.

Betty was born May 8, 1940 to Mr. and Mrs. Huffman. At the age of 1 year old, Betty stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Scott in Corry, Pennsylvania. Betty went to the Syracuse State School at the age of 12 after previously living with her stepmother Mrs. Scott. On June 15, 1972, Betty went into family care with Mrs. Margery Cressman in Adams, NY.

In 1988, Betty moved to the Arc Jefferson-St. Lawrence (previously the Jefferson Rehabilitation Center) to live in a community residence. Betty lived in a Supportive Apartment in 1992, but in 1994, Betty chose to return to a community residence. Betty lived at IRA 11 located at 803 Holcomb Street, Watertown, NY for many years and moved into the Franklin Street house in August of 2012.  Betty then moved back to 803 Holcomb Street permanently in July 2014.  This residence became Betty’s preferred home as she had developed many close friendships and enjoyed keeping busy with those around her.

Betty was a friendly and sociable woman. She was also an active woman who enjoyed the company of others whether at home or in the community. Betty participated in a variety of recreational activities and in the Day Habilitation Program full time within her home and in the retirement room located on Gaffney Drive until she retired on 1/2/2020.  Betty enjoyed volunteer activities in the community, going to the movies, shopping {new clothes & jewelry were her favorite items}, eating at local restaurants, having her hair & nails done and social activities such as dances.

Betty valued maintaining contact with the people who were most important to her. She attended church services at Trinity Church with friends Peggy Coe, Ben Coe and Karen Humphrey. Betty enjoyed spending most of her time with her friends Patti Hastings, Joanne Lazore, Sarah Hastings and Mary Ann Margrey. She was very close with the Hastings family and often spent time with them on the weekends and during holidays. Betty has a stepbrother, Jay Church and cousin, Mrs. Earldine Christianson.

An hour of calling will begin at 10 am on Tuesday at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A funeral service will follow at 11 am at the funeral home with Reverend Molly Payne-Hardin officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
