Betty Dier Obituary

Betty B. Dier of Ogdensburg, formerly of Watertown, passed away June 7, 2018 at River Ledge Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Ogdensburg, where she had been a resident for the past four years.

Betty was born on March 26, 1934, in High Point, NC, daughter of Jacob and Garnette Pickard Bodenhamer. On December 22, 1962, she married Richard R. Dier in High Point, NC. Prior to her marriage and moving to New York, Betty was employed as a telephone operator.  Before her retirement, she was a floral designer for Gray’s Flower Shop in Watertown. She was a member of the Watertown Golf Club, where she enjoyed golfing and had three ‘hole in one’. She was a past chairman for the March of Dimes and a member and volunteer for the Jefferson County Historical Society.  

Surviving besides her husband Richard, of Ogdensburg, are her children, Don (Toni) Dier, Utica, Tom (Bea) Dier, Watertown, Scott Dier, Little River, SC, Sue (Greg) Guimond, Ogdensburg, sister-in-law Diane Frawley, Wilmington, NC, a special niece Judy Ray, High Point, NC, grandchildren, Michael (Gina) Dier, New Hartford, Vincent (Chelsea) Dier, New Hartford, Zachary (Nicolle) Dier, Ashville, NC, Chase (April) Dier, Ashville, NC, Andrew Guimond, US Navy, Port Hueneme, CA, Danelle Guimond, Odgensburg, and great grandchildren, Allesandra, Braden, Paxton, and Brianna Dier, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Betty is predeceased by her siblings, Bertha Teague, Francis Horlick, Marguerite Sink, Jacob Bodenhamer and Jewel Kennedy.

Calling hours will be Monday, June 11, 2018 from 4-7 pm at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 9:15 am at the funeral home with a 10 am funeral mass at Holy Family Church with Reverend Steven Murray officiating and Rev. Joseph Morgan concelebrating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Gouvernuer, NY. Contributions may be made to River Ledge Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center or the Gouverneur Breast Cancer Fund.  Online condolences may be made to www.dlcalarco.com.  The family would like to thank the staff at River Ledge for the loving care and attention provided to our mother during her final years.
