1938 - 2016

Sara Joanne Martini, 77, formerly of Three Mile Bay, passed away January 14, 2016, at the home of her son Bobby, on Old Rome State Road, under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County and her family.

Joanne was born February 22, 1938, in Dexter, NY, a daughter of Percy and Beatrice Abare Voodre. She graduated from General Brown High School, as the valedictorian, in 1956. On September 20, 1958, she married Renald R. Martini at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Dexter with Reverend Edward P. Burns officiating.

In 1956, Joanne wrote commercial copy for WWNY Radio Station. During the summer she was assistant secretary to the Post Commander on Fort Drum. From the mid 1960’s until her retirement in 2015 she assisted her husband in the operation of Avon Shoe Store, their family business.

Joanne was a member of the American Legion Post 61, the Jefferson County Historical Society, the Dexter Historical Society, the Dexter Alumni Association, and the Celebration Singers, of Holy Family Church for forty-two years. She enjoyed watching General Hospital, facebook, reading, travel, and was an avid Oakland Raiders football fan. Joanne especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving besides her husband are two sons; Renald Robert “Bobby” and his companion Robin Parmigiani. Watertown, Michael Vincent, Watertown, a daughter and her husband Susan Marie and Richard Lucas, Copenhagen, two sisters and their husbands; Virginia and Dwight Doane, Watertown, Sylvia and Martin Germonto, Holiday, FL, four grandchildren; Stephen M. Hennigan, Jennifer M. Hennigan, Hannah R. Martini, Morgan A. Martini, two step grandchildren; Lindsey J. McCaw, Kyle R. Lucas, four great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Two sisters Elizabeth J. Howland and Mary Jo Secor died before her.

Calling hours will be Saturday, January 16, 2016, from 2-6pm pm at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016, at 10:15 am at the funeral home with an 11 am funeral mass at Holy Family Church with Reverend Steven Murray officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Credo Community Center, 595 W. Main St., Watertown, NY or to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, NY 13601.
