1927 - 2016

Marilyn L. Thackston, 88, of 375 Arlington St., Watertown, died  Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at the Hospice Residence, 1398 Gotham St., Watertown.
Mrs. Thackston worked for New York Telephone Co. and in the communications center at Fort Drum, retiring in 1989.  She also worked at Empsall Drug Co. and Baker’s Pharmacy.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Born Nov. 10, 1927, in Watertown, a daughter of Harold and Ethel Young Heinrich, she graduated from Watertown High School.
She married John B. Thackston on March 30, 1947, at Hope Presbyterian Church. Mr. Thackston, a retired time study engineer at the New York Air Brake, died Feb. 4, 1990.
Mr. and Mrs. Thackston were founding members of the Jefferson County Chapter of the Association for the Help of Retarded Children Inc., which later became Jefferson Rehabilitation Center.
Surviving are five sons and three daughters-in-law, John B., Scott G. and Robbin, and Randy C. and Sandy, all of Dexter, Kevin C., Watertown, and Gary A. and Amy, Liverpool; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A sister, Dorothy H. Kombacher, and a brother, John R. Heinrich, died before her.
Calling hours will be held Friday, August 19, 2016 from 4-7pm  at the funeral home. A graveside service Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11 am in Brookside Cemetery will be held, followed by a celebration of her life at the home of Randy and Sandy Thackston, for her family and friends.
Arrangements are with D.L. Calarco Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, N.Y. 13601 or Jefferson Rehabilitation Center, 380 Gaffney Drive, Watertown.
