Eleanor M. Marra

Eleanor M. Marra

1928 - 2016

Eleanor M. Marra, 87, Holcomb Street, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016, at her home under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County and her family.

Mrs. Marra was born August 6, 1928 in Old Forge, PA, a daughter of Leo and Rose Petillo Memolo. She graduated from Old Forge High School. On November 24, 1949, she married James V. Marra at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Marra died May 10, 2016. The couple had been married for sixty-seven years.

Mrs. Marra’s greatest joy was her husband, children, grandchildren and home.  Until recent years, she enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, specifically, her rose beds.  She was an avid reader and had a knowledge of many subjects which she would share with whomever would listen. In her youth she was a devoted Brooklyn Dodger fan, making most home games until leaving Brooklyn following her marriage to her beloved husband James (Vince).  Mrs. Marra was a communicant of St. Patrick’s church, and in earlier years was a member of the Watertown Hockey Association Auxiliary and enjoyed volunteering at the Orthopedic Clinic held at the State Office Building under the direction of Dr. David Vaneenenaam.  She and her husband enjoyed walking six miles daily until their health would no longer permit.  Most often they would be seen walking around the south side of town holding hands.

Surviving are a son, James (Jay) Jr. (Dawn), Ft. Calhoun, NE, three daughters, Pamela J. (Timothy) Clement, Patricia M. Virkler, Karen A. (Timothy) Adderley, all of Watertown, a sister, Christine (Dennis) Richardson, Jefferson, TX,  nine grandchildren, Amy (Christopher) Gamber, Timothy (Meghan) Clement, David (Beverly) Virkler, John Clement, Michael Adderley and Allison Adderley, Anna Marra, Victoria Campbell, John “JD” Campbell and Ashley Campbell, six great grandchildren , several nieces and nephews. Three sisters, Marie Marra, Natalie Foster, Jean Davanazo and a brother Leo Memolo, Jr. all died before her.

Calling hours will be Thursday, June 9, 2016, from 7-9pm at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be held Friday at 9:15 am with a 10 am funeral mass at St. Patrick’s Church with Reverend Robert Aucoin officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. The Marra Family,

We send our deepest condolences.  Your Mom was such a sweet, sweet person.  She is now in heaven with your Dad, right by his side where she should be.  God bless you all.

Condolences left by other guests:

To my Dear Cousins Jay, Pam, Patty, and Karen; and Families:  My heart breaks for you, as I know it was hard enough losing one parent, but to lose both loved ones in such a short time is just hard to imagine. I’m lost for words, but I hope you can find comfort in knowing that they are together again in a much better place, without pain. God Bless you all with comfort and peace, and know that you have cousins who love and care about you! I’m always a phone call away.
With my Love and Prayers…

What can I say to all of you?  So hard to imagine what you are feeling.  I do have a funny thing to tell you.  I want you to know that to this very day I think of your Mother every time I fold a Bath Towel!  I She kind of gave me that look one day and showed me the correct way! Obviously, I will never forget it!

Condolences left by other guests:

May Eleanor’s family and friends be comforted by God’s promise to “swallow up death forever, and wipe away every tear from all faces”. (Isaiah 25:8) Remembering too the promise of the resurrection on earth, for both the Unrighteous and Righteous. (24:15)
